Good try Redbaiter, but as Stephen23 implies, it is the notion that philandering somehow makes someoone unfit for office that is ridiculed by Maher.

Of course, to demonstrate that there is no relationship at all between fidelity and competence one would have to meausre fidelity levels for a much larger sample of presidents, and then there is the problem of “dirty data” and measuring competence…

If I was mocking fidelity I’d be taking aim at myself.

And Rush Limbaugh, say, isn’t? Doesn’t engage in “detestable behaviour? Ask Michael J. Fox. In all sincerity Redbaiter, I’m surprised that you don’t view Maher’s libertarian approach to moral issues more favourably.

And MacDoc, I’d be inclined to add Clinton to the list of “good” presidents, even though he disappointed in some ways. He’s still incredibly popular amongst the “working stiffs”.

I find it hilarious that they didn’t want John Edwards to speak because of his infidelity, but had Bill Clinton up on stage right at the outset. That’s either rank hypocrisy or rank stupidity – or, possibly, both.

Oh, sorry, I forgot. Bill Clinton “did not have sexual relations with that woman”. Yeah, right!

It continues to amaze me that so many people are apparently so blind to the bigotry and hate that underpins the political positions of the left, and that they so heartily applaud this kind of detestable behaviour. When will you come to your senses, and return to a manner of thinking that bears at least some resemblance to normalcy and decency?

Bill Maher is not funny. He is a bitter and cynical little bigot. This smear on Bush is not excused by humour. It is merely a demonstration of how crazed the left are in their hatred of Bush, in that they even turn his fidelity to his wife into something they can sneer at.

I hardly think he’s mocking Bush for not having an affair – the other presidents were good(~) presidents despite their affairs. Edwards is ‘good’, but had an affair, so can’t have anything to say on poverty. Bush is a ‘bad’, but the Republicans were fine with having him at their convention.

Yes, Adam, there’s some truth in that, but remember, Bill Maher is always such a patriot!

I can buy Roosevelt and Jefferson as great presidents, Eisenhower as OK, but have never been certain about Kennedy. Kennedy was to my mind more about hype than substance.
